What Causes Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism - Health Tips ...

Thyroid hormone is significant at a cellular level as it affect nearly every type of tissue in the body. Diseases are caused when thyroid produce too much hormones i.e., Hyperthyroidism or too little hormones i.e., Hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism

On the other hand hypothyroidism is caused due to low production of thyroid hormones. Causes of?hypothyroidism?includes-

Hashimoto?s Thyroiditis- In this disorder, the body attacks thyroid tissue. At the end tissue dies and stops producing insulin.

Excessive amounts of iodide exposure-

Cold and sinus medicines, the heart medicine amiodarone, or certain contrast dyes given before some X-rays may expose you to too much iodine.

Hyperthyroidism is caused due to excessive production of insulin. There are several ways in which Hyperthyroidism can occur and they are-

Graves? Disease- It is one of the most common of all thyroid problems. Once it has been diagnosed, it is easy to treat and even it can disappear completely after several months or years.

Toxic Adenomas- A thyroid adenoma is a tumor of the thyroid gland. Nodules are formed in the thyroid gland and releases thyroid hormones, upsetting the body?s chemical balance. Some goiters may contain numerous nodules.

Subacute Thyroiditis- Subacute thyroiditis is a rare condition. It generally occurs due to the viral respiratory tract infection and this result in temporary hyperthyroidism.
