2013 Beauty Trends ? The Full Moxie:: Celebrity, Entertainment, DIY ...

When it comes to beauty trends in 2013, it?s all about making a statement. This was not a season in which natural beauty reigned supreme, with dewy skin, barely there mascara and the briefest dash of lip gloss. Instead, across collections, designers went bold with their beauty statements: gone were the bare palettes and simply sleeked hair; even make up minimalists like Stella McCartney and Burberry sent models down the catwalk in iridescent hues. Put away that beige gloss, you won?t be needing it this season. Instead, pick a statement (go on, any statement, it hardly matters which one, this is not the important part) and embrace it to the max. 2013 is the time to rejuvenate your beauty routine and refresh your palette; it?s time to have fun with make up once again.

All In The Eyes

If your beauty regime focuses on lashes and lids, you won?t be disappointed with the looks available to you this season, with nary a designer sending models down the catwalk rocking the statement eye.

At Moschino, a serious 60?s vibe was channelled, where two pairs of faux lashes were used to open up eyes coated in smokey hues. A retro vibe was also present at Marc Jacobs, where eyes were offset with heavy, filled in brows and pale lips. Meanwhile, the theme for the smokey eye continued over at Chanel, with shades of silver surrounding the eye up to the brow.

Moving on a few decades, grunge was big news on the catwalks this season and this extended past the collections to the beauty, with everyone from Christopher Kane to Lanvin to Diane Von Furstenberg bringing about a 90?s revival. Think ?worn in? mascara (clump the lashes slightly to achieve that slept in look that is key to this trend) and lashings of smudgy liner on the bottom of the eye.

Magenta is one of this season?s must have hues and Donna Karan showed it?s not just for the lips, coating both lids and lashes in it. Michael Kors and Dior were among those embracing aqua eyes: heavy handed applications of eye shadow accentuated with gems studded around the eyes were present at the latter; while strips of neon liner sat above the eye crease at Michael Kors? shows. Not for the faint of heart, mind; for a more pared down approach that will still give you that necessary flash of colour, aqua liner on the bottom lash line was favoured at Stella McCartney.

Let Lips Do The Talking

For those of you that prefer to?emphasize?your lips, pack your pout with bold colours this season.

Lucia Pieroni for MAC used bold pops of colour to set off perfect skin at Giles; Burberry forewent the natural look, which is de rigueur for their shows, in favour of a classic, Hollywood red pout, created using their new shade of Burberry Lip Velvet in Siren; and the statement lip took on a whole new level at Dior, where palettes of red and fuchsia were used as the basis for dazzling, bejewelled lips.

Don?t feel like you have to restrict yourself to one colour either: the ?skater girl? look came out trumps at Holly Fulton, where the fuchsia pouts faded into orange in the middle of the bottom lip.

Seriously Statement Skin

Speaking of the aggressive use of?color?this season, it would be entirely remiss of me to finish this post without a quick nod to Vivienne Westwood and her particular take on this season?s use of palette: not only were the models at her shows rocking both the statement eye and lip, but skin was stained in some serious hues too. Green painted faces? Not for me, ta, but hey, kudos to those of you who can pull this one off. Or, at the very least, give it a good go.?

If you?re reading this with your head in your hands, despairing of a season of brights you will never realistically brave and wanting only a suggestion of the best nude lip liners and clear mascaras for the year ahead, first of all, well done on getting this far; second: despair no more.? If you feel that you really must embrace the minimalistic look, far be it from me to tell you this is a no go.

The ban on bare wasn?t absolute this season; if you?re going to do it, do it big. Faces were devoid of blush or bronze, with the focus on matte, velvety skin that was kept pale and interesting. If this is the one for you this season, make sure you bleach those brows too to be ultra fashion forward a la Gucci and Miu Miu.
